guidance today

an awakening..

to some extent it is..anw.why i say so...

went for a wake today.. not like i nv go before; went for a few soka rites previously to help out..but guess this one leave a deep impression on me...

it is my friend's mum..details wise maybe no need say. but just made me realise the fragility of life. but what is more impt is to really cherish everyone beside you, esp ur parents....guess it will be a big reminder to me everytime..

but guess what's impt now is how the family must stay strong and win over this

if only ...part 2

actually u might be wondering why my previous post was put as "if only".. ok guess i stop rather abruptly n yet to touch on why i put "if only"

let me continue...the ppl in the show need to be self-reliant, they need to do their human revolution, only by their own inner transformation for the better can they improve their lives.

quan yi feng say the proverb "not to give someone fish, but to teach the person how to fish", it brings me back to i think what makiguchi sensei say about the 3 good. If someone is poor, the 1st gd (forget the exact term) is to give him money, like above. However, giving him money is not enuff, cos he will use it up anw. the 2nd good is to find him a job, which give him e source of money. However, what if the money is one that is lazy, or gambles his money away, he will still be poor, no matter how many jobs u find him or how much it pays. Only the 3rd good (greatest good) can help him. Only by pointing out his problems and only through the person's human revolution can he get out of his poverty.

So the thing is, if only...these people will know this unsurpassed philosophy in Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism...

if only..

was watching "Life transformers", the show on channel 8 about unfortunate ppl in our society, most of them are probably living in super dire circumstances, their house is really...

watching the show really makes me realise how fortunate we are, living in nice home, having school to go to...we really shd cherish wad we have. for example, today's show is abt 4 siblings, 3 of them are mentally challenged. I can only say it's due to karma tt they are born in this way, but according to Buddhism, everyone has the right to become happy and karma can be changed.

actually what quan yifeng say in e show is right, it's not just helping them to clean up their house tt's all, it's abt making the ppl self-reliant; well isn't tt what Buddhism teaches?

ime amazing hunt!

yea went for our company team building today. actually today is the last of the 3 days in which this thingy is held; i.e. 70-80 ppl went for each of the 3 days.

had polar sandwiches + milo + another packet drink when we assembled at the vivo monorail station at around 830. not bad for a start. ha.

then made our way to palawan beach, though we made a mistake n the whole monorail ppl alighted one stop early. oops .but it's interesting to see a whole sea of orange in the monorail (cos we got t-shirt for this event). ha.

think this team building was planned by some action games company? actually saw their website but forget liao. oops. anw the "host" was interesting. ha. n he happened to be the classmate of some person in our company.

we also had a corporate grand prix, n can even win trophy ha. anw it's where we "built" a car n race it. still got qualifying round one.. but well guess our team (RATS, meaning Rangers AT Sentosa) took a bit too long to decide on one part then not enuff time to change a part(though they cut the time by 15min). but well, one of the assistant rendered us alot of help and we managed to complete the car! ha. then it's e racing, with a person pushing and another steering. very fun. ha

after this, had buffet lunch. not bad, but guess it's not a gd thing to eat too much.. n hence think alot of food was left over. ah...

then afternoon was sth like the actual amazing hunt. main thing is we managed to play the luge n sit in the sky lift! ha e luge is fun of cos, though it's short. sky lift on the other hand, ah very scary lol. scared of heights sia (though i received a call and distract me) it's really quite high lor, n i was fearing my shoes but just suddenly drop down. :o

anw today think alot of companies come play. another group also played some amazing race though theirs look more siong. ha. then another company also came for team building, playing some of the games that we played.

ended at 430, came home early. ha.

What is true youthfulness?

The French philosopher Roger Garaudy says, "True youth is attained only when you achieve one self-renewal after another." The youthfulness that he speaks of is attained through shedding the fetters of the past and present, and having the spiritual strength and hopeful resolve to constantly work towards creating the future.

In other words, a barometer of your youthfulness is whether you are determined to create or achieve something new, to open a new path or take some kind of affirmative action. The overall strength of your resolve determines how youthful you are. In this respect, Garaudy suggested that newborn babies are perhaps the farthest from true youthfulness in that they are totally at the mercy of their environment.

In essence, contrary to what one might normally assume, life should be regarded as a process which commences from "old age" that is ,a condition in which we are at the mercy of our environment, and advances towards "youth", namely, a condition in which we are in control of our environment. The French philosopher believes that genuine character and true youthflness lie in building a self that becomes more disciplined, independent, free and vigorous as the years go by.

He concludes therefore that in order to acquire true youthfulness, we must repeatedly make fresh and deep determinations right up until the last moment of our lives. This attitude to life could be termed "constructive hope". Hope gives birth to youthfulness ad determination builds personal character.

I m really protected...

thinking back a few times, fear gripped me as i realized that I could have lost my life there and then. Actually seconds just after the incident, i was feeling nonchalant; basically I was in a stoning mode. But minutes later, I found that it was just so close....

Anyway wad happen is yday I went yishun, going to take bus to the shop outside NS camp to sew sth. normally when i cross the road, i might cross even before the traffic light of the pedestrian side turns green; tt's by looking at the traffic light on the car side to judge. And tt's wad i normally do and what happened yday.

However, crossing unfamiliar road yday and in a stoning mode, I wasn't even at the main walking path yday. Hence I can only see the traffic light of the cars only at the opposite direction but not the lights on my side. Hence when the traffic lights of the cars (on the other side) turn red totally, I just assumed that this side is also red and started to cross.

then 3/4 through the 1st half, i heard horns. not tt loud, esp when i was on my music too. and i wasn't even bothering about the horns actually, cos i was in a stoning mood, and also cos as i say, i assumed it's red already and even thought wad e, red still want to speed across? it was only when i was half way and i see that nobody had started to cross when i realized that the light was probably still green.

but it was seriously when I was thinking back that I realised I am really protected. I could have crossed the road when the trucks that are moving past are still a long distance away. if they are like only 20m and i happily assumed they will stop (cos i thought it was a red light), you won't even see this post of mine.
